Origins of the Air Max Plus shoe

The revolutionary Air-Sole unit debuted in the Nike Footwear line in 1978. 1987 marked the debut of the Nike Air Max 1, the first model with a visible Air unit in the heel, showing admirers the features of the new technology, as well as offering all the typical Air-Sole benefits. In 1998, Air Max Plus introduced the cushioning system that “tuned” the Air-Sole units to specific parts of the foot to give runners more stability and support. Thanks to its sunset-inspired colorways and undulating design lines reminiscent of wind-swept beaches, this shoe gained such popularity that it soon became a cultural phenomenon.
